    With my birthday right around the corner, and the thought of becoming one year older, I’m beginning to think about going on to the next phase, in the evolution of my health.  I’ve been inspired recently by a truly brilliant woman, her name is Leslie Kirchmeier, and I met her through USAloe™.  Recently I attended two of her Living Foods classes in Fallbrook, CA, which inspired me to go through my home  this weekend and give away all my kitchen gadgets and miscellaneous household appliances, in order to justify buying a Vita-mix :-) .  Once I get it and a quality food processor, then I’m equipped with the “proper tools”, as Leslie’s husband Steven put it, to start following even more of a Raw Food lifestyle.  

    With the love and encouragement of my fiance’, I have, over the last several years, become a completely different person in terms of my diet and lifestyle.  I thank God everyday for making our paths cross!   With my next birthday right around the corner, I find myself doing a  yearly health check.  Just a quick, personal assessment, of how I feel in comparison to this time last year.  Don’t get me wrong, I love birthdays! People show you how much they care by calling and wishing a well.  You realize how blessed you really are!   At the same time, you start to think about your own mortality, your health!

    If we want to stay healthy as we age, there are some things we can all do, to keep ourselves in peak condition.    Besides the really obvious,  like not drinking too much or smoking.  And learning to enjoy all things in moderation and flow with the journey of life. 

    Here is a list of six things, to keep you fit as a fiddle: 

    1. Decrease the amount of calories that you eat.  Increase the amount of lean protein, which doesn’t neccesarily need to be animal.  Also decrease or eliminate the simple carbohydrates.  Instead try new grains, something you maybe never heard of before, like Quinoa or Buckwheat.
    2. Increase the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. You need at least four servings per day of fresh fruits and vegetables, this is where more is better :-)
    3. Get the appropriate exercise. You don’t have to become a gym rat, but aim to do at least three days a week of some resistance training.  My favorite is Yoga, any kind, especially hot! Then four days a week of cardio training.  Try interval type training, to burn more calories.  Just varying the speed of a brisk walk is  works well.  And don’t forget to stretch, that’s another benefit of Yoga. 
    4. Take at least a multivitamin supplemenmt daily, and wash it down with AloeAdvanced™  to increase absorption.AloeControl 
    5. Some occasional sun is GOOD.  Most Americans are vitamin D-deficient.  The best source of vitamin D is the sun.     Today is the day, ALOE FAST DAY!  That’s because my late night munchies are getting out of control.  Interesting, last year right around this same time, I started researching the Master Cleanse and what it actually entailed.  At first, it sounds somewhat easy, just drink lemonade for a while ( 10 days :-o ).  However, upon inspection I realized there was a whole lot more to it than that.   So in the past year, I have only achieved one day fasts, either just drinking water with apple cider vinegar or this nifty Aloe Fast that I am doing today. 

    This is not the first time I have done this fast, however it will be the first time that I recorded how I felt.  As I remember it was much easier than the water fast because the AloeControl™  really helps me not think about food nearly as often due to the; Humulus Lupulus, Hoodia Gordini and Caralluma Fimbriata.  These are all proven appetite suppressants that several different populations from around the globe have been utilizing for some time.  Anyway it’s really like cheating compared to a water fast.   I am definitely an amateur, but I’m making progress regardless.  Besides I’m honestly not sure that I will be able to finish a 10 day fast.  I simply love food too much!  So it’s just this one day Aloe Fast for now.  I think I need to save the Master Cleanse to try at some beautiful resort in Thailand :-)   Anyway, I can feel good that I gave my digestive system the day off :-)

    Aloe, Yoga and Cellulite

    Funny how four letter words are supposed to be the bad ones, however in this case the four letter words are the good ones.  Like Aloe and yoga, two of my favorite things in the world!  The bad word of the day is CELLULITE, and that’s a lot more than four letters.  Cellulite, which is just a glorified term for fat, is http://superaloegirl.sbesite.com/ symptom of reduced lymph circulation. Yoga helps lymph flow more freely through fatty areas, flushing toxins and reducing this nemesis.  I have to say though that it’s really unfair that we women are more prone to cellulite than men.  In men, not only is there generally less fat on the thighs, but also the outer skin is thicker hiding any surplus fat below.
    For us women, it does not matter whether you are obese or not, cellulite has the same chance to attack you. So where does Aloe come into play? Well, recent research shows that Aloe Vera is able to prevent more cellulite from showing up on our skin.
    Obviously there is no magic cure that miraculously is going to make it go away over night, however if we eat healthy, practice some recommended inversion yoga poses and utilize “the plant of immortality”,  we can combat cellulite head on. At home, an easy way of treating cellulite is to buy an Aloe Vera plant and remove the gel from it, or an easier way is to just purchase a quality gel such as Real Aloe™Gelly. It is a natural and effective way to deal with cellulite.     Avoid Liquid FAT!!!

    When I first started hitting the gym and watching my health, 5 years ago, I really enjoyed getting a smoothie after a hard workout.  Then, it occurred to me, I didn’t exactly know the calorie count on the creamy treat.  In fact, come to think of it, I really had no clue what the frozen stuff they put in it was.  Who knows how many ingredients are in it, that I can’t even pronounce!  That’s when I decided it would be much better to make my after workout reward at home and that way it wouldn’t be as much of an indulgence. 

     

    Now, I was on a mission. I needed to recreate what I got at the gym, or at least something similar.  I found a great frozen tropical fruit blend and a protein powder to match.  So all I really needed was a little liquid to get it to blend up nicely.  Now this was back before I feel in love…

    WITH ALOE VERA!  Of Course :-)

    I tried all sorts of different combinations with yogurt, soy milk, almond milk and a variety of juices.  Nothing seemed to replicate what I got from the gym :-(

    Then…   WHAM….    BAM…… BOOM!  Aloe Vera came to the rescue! 

    Just kidding, in all seriousness though, it really was the missing ingredient.  Now, blending up a tasty smoothie at home is super easy. Also, I know it is much better for me in everyway.  Unfrotunately, I have not been going to the gym much lately, so I don’t remember what chain of smoothie bar was there.  Therefore, I just turned to the ole’ reliable, Eat This, Not That, to see how much damage a liquid concotion can have on a diet, especially when it’s disguised as healthy.  First though, here’s my recipe for a Super Smoothie, that will fight free radicals for up to 12 hrs, and enhance your metabolism to burn extra calories throughout the rest of the day.

    Super Aloe Girl Smoothie

    • 1 1/2-2 cups of frozen tropical fruit = 105-140 cal.
    • 1 scoop tropical protein powder =  150 cal.
    • 4 oz. Aloe Advanced™ = 76 cal.
    • 4oz. AloeControl™ = 70 cal.

    The secret is to blend it well on high, until it’s really smooth. Then turn it down to aerate for a minute or more.  This will make it extra creamy, almost like whipped topping, YUMMY!!!

    Now, here is just a few examples of the hidden dangers, at the your local smoothie bar.  And, even if the smoothie comes from a gym, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is healthy, so watch out.  The supplemental facts given here aren’t exactly what your going to be served either.  Some portions are, a little more generous, than others.  So, the only way to know what we’re consuming for sure, is to prepare your antioxidant, metabolism boosting, protein packed smoothie at home.  For me, there is a lot more enjoyment in it that way too.

    GUILT or CELEBRATION?

    Can we have our cake and eat it too?  Or should we ban dessert altogether?  Not me!!!  I LOVE DESSERT!  Really, I love all food, however if I was made to choose between a gourmet dinner and a scoop of ice cream, the later will win every time.  Maybe because there are just so many positive memories associated with it.  I don’t know for sure, but ice cream is so dear to me, that if I wake up with a nightmare, all I have to do is visualize a delightful cone and the boogie man is turned into the pillsbury dough boy in no time flat.

    Well then, can we still indulge in sweets without waking up to a nightmare, the read out on the scale?   As with most everything, moderation is key!  If only we could get the food industry to agree.  The French enjoy foods that we deem evil and still don’t have the obesity epidemic that we do here in America.  The reason, portion control!!!  This one issue makes me crazy!  When did we decide that the value of more food on our plate, outweighted the value of our health?  I read somewhere once, that the average restaurant meal in America is enough to feed 4-6 people.  Are we really taking home that many leftovers or are we just wasting a ton of food?  Worst of all, maybe we are cleaning our plate!

    *** Come on America, it’s no wonder that the one word we associate a with chocolate cake is GUILT, while the French think CELEBRATION.***  

    Check out the worst cake on this list from ‘Eat This, Not That’.  Seriously it has as many carbohydrates as you’ll find in 14 slices of white bread.  Celebration or guilt time, you decide?
